Support Without the Runaround
Something goes wrong with a website, and the experience of getting it fixed is often worse than the problem itself. A ticket submitted, a vague reply a few days later, a suggestion to clear your cache. By which point you have lost enquiries, lost time, and lost confidence in whoever is supposed to be looking after things.
Digital support is probably the part of my work I spend the most time on. Not just websites, but everything around them: email that stops delivering, DNS records that got changed and broke something, a WordPress update that went wrong at the worst moment, a site that launched last year and now needs someone to check it is still running properly.
Some of it is quick. A DNS fix or a plugin conflict can be sorted in under an hour. Some of it is more involved, such as recovering a compromised site or migrating an organisation to a new email platform. Either way, the approach is the same: find out what is actually wrong, explain it plainly, and fix it without making it more complicated than it needs to be.
I work with small businesses, charities and individuals across Worcestershire and the West Midlands, and with clients further afield where the work can be handled remotely. You do not need to be an existing client. Most of the support I do is for people who have found me because something has gone wrong and they are not sure who else to call.
What is included in every project
Website Fixes and Recovery
Broken plugins, PHP errors, theme conflicts, failed updates and anything else that has brought a site down or stopped it working properly. WordPress and Joomla covered as standard. If the original developer has long since disappeared, that is fine.
Hosting, DNS and Domain Support
DNS records, Cloudflare configuration, SSL certificates, domain transfers, nameserver changes and backup routines. If your hosting is causing problems or something changed and broke the setup, I can find it and fix it.
Email Setup and Support
Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace setup, configuration and troubleshooting. Email deliverability problems, SPF and DMARC records, DNS corrections and branded email address configuration for businesses and charities.
Hacked Site Recovery
Malware removal, file cleaning, security hardening and hosting-level fixes for compromised sites. I will also explain how it happened and what needs to change to reduce the risk of it happening again.
GDPR Compliance
Site audits, privacy policy reviews, cookie consent configuration and data handling checks. I have a detailed background in GDPR compliance and can assess what your site needs to meet its obligations properly rather than just ticking a box.
Ongoing Support
Help available after the site goes live. No retainers, no monthly contracts required. Phone, email or WhatsApp when you need something. Updates, fixes, questions.
How a project works
Most support jobs start the same way, something is not working and you are not
sure why. The process from there
is straightforward.
Get in Touch
Tell me what is happening. No forms to fill in, no brief to write up. A message, a call or a WhatsApp is enough to get things moving.
I Take a Look
I investigate the issue and give you a clear picture of what is wrong and what needs doing. You know what it will cost before anything starts. If it turns out to be straightforward, I will tell you that too.
It's Sorted
The fix is applied, the setup is completed, or a support arrangement is put in place. You know what was done and why, without having to take it on trust.
The Kind of Thing I Deal With
Every support job is different, but most fall into recognisable patterns. Here are a few examples of the kind of work that comes in.
Bewdley Almshouses
Bewdley Almshouses, a registered charity, needed to move away from an outdated BT Internet email setup that was no longer fit for purpose. I guided them through the Microsoft nonprofit programme, secured Microsoft 365 at no cost, registered a new domain and migrated their email across with minimal disruption. That relationship has continued since: when printer configurations needed updating and Microsoft 365 licensing required managing, that came to me as well. It is the kind of ongoing arrangement that works well for smaller organisations with no in-house technical resource.
Hacked Site Recovery
A site compromised through an outdated plugin. Malware had been injected across multiple files and the hosting provider had flagged and suspended the account. I cleaned the installation, removed the malicious code, hardened the security configuration and got the site back online. The whole process took around half a day. The owner had not known anything was wrong until visitors started being redirected.
WordPress Update Gone Wrong
A WordPress core update introduced a conflict with an existing plugin, taking down key functionality on a live business site. I identified the conflicting components, rolled back where needed, found a compatible path forward and had the site working again within a couple of hours. This is one of the most common support calls I receive. It happens, and it is fixable.
Over Two Decades of Experience, Working Directly for You
I have been working in web design and digital since the late nineties, through every platform shift, security change and industry upheaval that has happened since.
Before going independent, I managed digital projects for large organisations across housing, education and financial services. Systems that had to work because the consequences of failure were real: tens of thousands of users, public-facing platforms, compliance requirements that could not be ignored. That background means I approach support work with a level of rigour that goes beyond a quick fix.
You get the benefit of that experience without the agency overhead. Clear explanations, honest assessments, and work done properly the first time.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to be an existing client?
No. Most of the support work I do is for people who have found me because something has gone wrong and they need it sorted. Get in touch and I will take a look.
How quickly can you respond?
For urgent issues, such as a site that is down or email that has stopped working, I will aim to respond the same day and in most cases within the hour. For non-urgent requests, I will come back to you by the end of the working day.
How is support charged?
Most jobs are charged by the hour or as a fixed fee once I know the scope. You will always know what it will cost before I start. I do not charge for the initial conversation.
What platforms do you support?
I have experience working with a wide range of platforms. For websites that includes WordPress, Joomla!, Drupal, Umbraco, Concrete5, Shopify, WooCommerce, Magento, Wix, ImpressCMS, eZ Publish, Alfresco and MediaWiki, among others. For business productivity and email: Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, SharePoint and Microsoft Viva. Cloudflare for DNS, and most UK hosting platforms. If your platform is not on the list, ask anyway. If I have not worked with it directly, I will tell you honestly.
What if I do not know what is wrong?
You are not expected to. Simply describe what is happening and I will work from there. Finding the cause is part of the job. I will tell you what I find and what needs doing before anything else happens.
Do you offer ongoing support without a contract?
Yes. There is no minimum commitment and no obligation to sign up for anything ongoing. Some clients contact me once every few months, others prefer a regular arrangement. It is whatever works for you.
What if my site has been hacked?
Get in touch as soon as possible. The sooner a compromised site is dealt with, the less damage is done. I handle malware removal, site cleaning and security hardening, and I can liaise with your hosting provider if the account has been suspended.
Can you help with Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace?
Yes. Setup, configuration, email deliverability, DNS records, licensing and general troubleshooting for both platforms. I also help charities and nonprofits access Microsoft 365 at no cost through the Microsoft nonprofit programme.
Do you work outside Kidderminster and Worcestershire?
I am based in Kidderminster and work with businesses across Worcestershire and the West Midlands. I also work remotely with clients across the UK, most of a project can be handled online without any issue.
Got a Problem?
Let's Sort It.
If something has broken, stopped working, or is not behaving the way it should, get in touch and I will take a look. There is no obligation and no charge for the initial conversation.
Most support jobs are quicker to fix than people expect. A brief description of what is happening is all I need to get started. Whether it is something urgent that needs attention today or a problem you have been putting off dealing with, the process is the same: you contact me directly, I investigate, and we go from there.
I cover website problems, email issues, DNS and hosting, security, GDPR and ongoing maintenance. If you are not sure whether it falls within what I do, ask anyway. The worst I can do is point you in the right direction.
