This Cookie Policy explains how Paul James, trading as Paul James Digital (“I”, “me”, “my”), uses cookies and similar technologies on the website https://pauljamesdigital.uk/ (the “Website”). It sits alongside my Privacy Policy.
1. What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files placed on your device (computer, tablet or mobile phone) when you visit a website. They are widely used to make websites work efficiently and to provide functionality such as remembering your preferences. This policy also covers similar technologies, such as scripts and local storage, where they are used.
2. How I use cookies
I keep cookies to a minimum. This Website does not use advertising or tracking cookies, and it does not load Google Analytics or any other third-party service that sets analytics cookies. The cookies it does use fall into the following groups.
- Strictly necessary cookies. These are needed for the Website to work, to keep it secure, and to remember the choices you make. They include a security cookie set by Cloudflare and cookies that store your cookie-banner preferences. They do not require consent.
- Analytics without cookies. I measure how the Website is used with Matomo, which I host myself on my own infrastructure at pauljamesanalytics.uk. It runs without cookies and collects only aggregate statistics, such as page views, referring sites, device type and approximate country. No personal data is collected or stored, and nothing is shared with any third party.
Because the analytics does not store or read information on your device and is used only to produce aggregate statistics to improve the Website, it relies on the ICO’s statistical purposes exception. You can object at any time using the control below, which sets the opt-out cookie listed in the table.

3. Cookie declaration
The cookies used on this Website are set out below.
| Cookie name | Category | Expiration | Purpose |
|---|---|---|---|
| cf_clearance | Strictly necessary | 1 year | Set by Cloudflare, my security and content delivery provider, after your browser passes a security check. It records that you have been cleared so you are not repeatedly challenged. |
| pressidium_cookie_consent | Strictly necessary | 6 months | Stores the cookie choices you make on the Website so the cookie banner does not reappear on every page. |
| wp_consent_* (functional, marketing, preferences, statistics, statistics-anonymous) | Strictly necessary | 1 month | Records your choice for each cookie category through the WordPress Consent API, so the Website applies your preferences. These cookies store consent and preference states only; they do not mean that marketing or tracking cookies are used. |
| mtm_consent_removed | Strictly necessary | 13 months | Set only if you use the analytics opt-out above. It records that you have opted out so that Matomo does not count your visits. |
4. Managing your cookies
You can review or change your cookie choices at any time using the cookie settings on the Website. You can opt out of analytics using the control in Section 2 above. You can also block or delete cookies through your browser settings. Please note that blocking strictly necessary cookies may affect how the Website works and break certain features.
For more detail on how I handle your personal data, please read my Privacy Policy. If you have any questions about this Cookie Policy, please contact me.
